INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE The Stanley Works is the sole
owner of the information collected on Stanley Sites. The Stanley Works collects
information from our users at several different points on our Web site.
INFORMATION COLLECTION We may collect personal information
from our site users when you affirmatively provide it to us at several different
points. For example, you may order a product from us, or you may be required to
complete a registration form in order to use some sections and special functions
of the Stanley Sites. You may choose to opt-in to our subscription listing to
receive informational or promotional offers from us and our affiliates via mail
or e-mail. During subscription, you will be required to give certain contact
information (such as name, address, and email address). We may also ask you to
provide demographic information, such as profession or industry. This is
optional but encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our
site by delivering content that is targeted to your general area of
interest.
INFORMATION USE If you have opted-in to our mailing list, we
use the personal information we collect to contact you about products and/or
services in which you have expressed interest. We may also use
the information we collect from you for any of the following purposes: (1) to
fulfill your requests for products and services; (2) to provide you with
targeted offers and advertising on the Stanley Sites; (3) to contact you with
information and promotional materials and offers from us as well as from our
related companies, marketing partners, advertisers and other third parties; (4)
to contact you when necessary; (5) to review site usage and operations; (6) to
address problems with the Stanley Sites, our business or our products and
services; and (7) to protect the security or integrity of the Stanley Sites and
our business.
COLLECTION AND USE OF NON-PERSONAL INFORMATION We store
information that we collect through cookies, log files, and/or third party site
traffic software to create a profile of our users. A profile is stored
information that we keep on individual users that details their viewing
preferences but is NOT tied to users’ personally identifiable information. The
data is used to improve the content and layout of the site for all users. We
share profile data with other third parties in aggregate form
only.
COOKIES A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s
computer tied to information about the user. We sometimes use session ID
cookies, which expire once you close your browser. We may also use persistent
cookies, which are stored on your hard drive for an extended period of time. You
are free to decline cookies, but, by doing so, you may not be able to use
certain features on the Stanley Sites or take full advantage of all of our
offerings. Check the “Help” menu of your browser to learn how to change your
cookie preferences.
LOG FILES AND TRACKING CODE Like most standard Web site servers
we use log files and javascript tracking code to generate website metrics
reports. This means that, as part of the standard operation of the Stanley
Sites, we collect certain non-personal information from you, including internet
protocol (IP) address, browser type, computer platform type, internet service
provider (ISP) and the domain from which you accessed our site. In addition, we
may collect information about your browsing behavior, including the date and
time of your visit, the area or pages of the site that you visit, the amount of
time you spend viewing the site and other click-stream data. We may use this
information to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement in the
aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. We do not
combine any of this information with your personally identifiable
information.
CLEAR GIFS We or our third party advertising companies may
employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web
Bugs/Pixel Tags), that help us better manage site content by informing us what
content is effective. In addition, we use clear gifs in our HTML-based emails
and certain search engine advertisements to let us know which emails have been
opened and which emails and advertisements have been acted upon. This allows us
to gauge the effectiveness of our communications and the effectiveness of our
marketing campaigns. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier,
similar in function to cookies, and are used to track site users’ online
movements. The main difference between the two is that clear gifs are invisible
on the page and are much smaller, about the size of the period at the end of
this sentence. Clear gifs are not tied to users’ personally identifiable
information and are used to track user’s movement in the aggregate, and gather
broad demographic information for aggregate use.
INFORMATION DISCLOSURE We may disclose information collected
from and about you as follows: (1) to our service providers to perform a
business, professional or technical support function for us; (2) as necessary if
we believe that there has been a violation of our site terms and conditions or
of our rights or the rights of any third party; (3) to respond to judicial
process and provide information to law enforcement agencies or in connection
with an investigation of matters related to public safety, as permitted by law,
or otherwise as required by law; and (4) if we, any of our divisions or
subsidiary companies, or substantially all of its assets are acquired, your
personal information may be one of the transferred assets.
CHOICE Users of our site are always notified when their
information is being collected by any outside parties. We do this so our users
can make an informed choice as to whether or not they should proceed with
services that require an outside party. If you would prefer to no longer
receive commercial email from us, please follow the unsubscribe instructions in
the email message that you receive from us.
LINKS This Web site contains links to other sites. Please be
aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites.
We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the
privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally
identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information
collected by this Web site. Some of our business partners are linked from our
Stanley Sites and due to similar design and color schemes may appear to be
hosted and maintained by The Stanley Works, Inc. (for example, Investor
Relations and licensee sites such as www.StanleyGear.com).
SURVEYS & CONTESTS From time-to-time, we may request
information via surveys or contests. Participation is completely voluntary, and
you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose the requested
information, which typically includes contact information (such as name and
shipping address) and demographic information (such as zip code). Contact
information will be shared with the contest and survey sponsors to notify the
winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of
monitoring or improving the use and effectiveness of the Stanley Sites. Users’
personally identifiable information is not shared with third parties unless we
give prior notice and choice. Though we may use an intermediary to conduct these
surveys or contests, they may not use or disclose users’ personally identifiable
information for any other purposes.
E-MAIL THIS PAGE TO A FRIEND If a user elects to use our
referral service for informing a friend about a Stanley Site, we ask for the
friend’s name and email address. We will send the friend a one-time email
inviting him or her to visit the site. We do not store this email information
after sending this one-time email.
SECURITY We take commercially reasonable precautions to protect
our users’ personal information.
NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES We may change this privacy statement
from time to time. When we do, we will post the change(s) on the Stanley
Sites. If we change the statement in a material way, we will provide
appropriate online notice to you.
